The wreck of hope

Inspired by the painting by Kaspar David Friedrich of the same title​, this is series of watercolors representing explosions, catastrophes, war and other things that come. What fascinated me about the painting of the shipwreck by K.D.F. is the romanticism and fantasy that surrounds the catastrophe, and the fascination that keeps us staring at images of disaster. 

This is why I chose to paint these images with watercolors, that represents for me a medium for painting beauty, within my studio, painting wikimedia and Wikileaks images, faraway places in space and time, in the same manner with romantic painters who never painted outdoors.
