L'arbre dans l'escalier, The tree on the stairs, French Institut Athens, 2018
Fresco and engravings using materials found in the IFA.
The trunks were painted from trees outside the Institute, visible through the windows of the stairs and offices. The texts written on the trunks are quotations from authors mentioned by the staff of the IFA during their exchanges with us about the discovery of literature during their childhood and youth (Simone de Beauvoir, Victor Hugo, Molière, Voltaire, Albert Camus, Khalil Gibran, etc.). Extracted from their original text, these quotes, engraved on the trees in the manner of graffiti, challenge the visitor directly and without filters. Visitors discover them by taking the stairs. These little texts tell us about life, death, love, melancholy and joy.
